Axarquía

Our camping is located in the Axarquía, a region at the most eastern zone of the province of Málaga (Spain), touching the limit with the province of Granada. This region stretches through the coast and the interior of the region, and its seaside towns make up the Eastern Costa del Sol. Its capital and most relevant city is Vélez-Málaga. And the residents of this region are called "axárquicos".

Its villages are picturesque places which know how to maintain the light, colour and beauty of their streets and squares, their monuments and local festivities which along with its environmental and weather characteristics invite to be visited. The lands of the Axarquía are like a small Málaga: mountain, valley and coast.

Recommended Routes

Sun and Avocado Route
Made up by the towns of Rincón de la Victoria, Macharaviaya, Vélez-Málaga, Benamocarra, Iznate and Benamargosa. This route is called "Avocado Route" because it gathers the biggest exploitations of subtropical crops like Avocado, Mango, Guava, Papaya, Custard Apple and Litchi.

SUN AND WINE ROUTE
Algarrobo, Sayalonga, Competa, Canillas de Albaida, Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana combine tourism frenzy and rural peace. Its designation comes from those white farmhouses and "paseros" (traditional raisin dryers) where the famous sweet wine of the Axarquía is prepared. The town of Competa must be emphasized due to its Day of Wine which is celebrated every August 15.

RAISIN ROUTE
This route consists of the towns of Totalán, Comares, Cútar, El Borge, Almáchar and Moclinejo, and its main characteristics are its vineyards and "paseros" (traditional raisin dryers). Its climatic and geographical conditions turns this area into an excellent place to cultivate the authentic raisin of Málaga.

MUDEJAR ROUTE
Among the hillside of Sierra Alhama, Tejeda and Almijara, several white villages can be found maintaining their Muslim heritage. Perhaps these villages, indifferent to time, are the most intimate villages of this region. This route consists of the towns of Arenas, Archez, Salares, Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno.

ROUTE OF OLIVE OIL AND MOUNTAINS
Among Sierra Tejeda, Alhama, Enmedio and Jobo, offering a unique landscape, where predominate the green tones of the "verdiales" olive trees. In their "almazaras" (olive oil mills) one of the best oils in the World is made. This route consists of the villages of Colmenar, Riogordo, Alfarnate, Alfarnatejo, Periana, Alcaucín and Viñuela.
